With the sole objective of carrying out breeding activity for breed improvement of milch breeds of the state, Gujarat Livestock Development Board was established on 12th April 2002 and was registered under Charity Commissioner Act on 31st March 2003.

Gujarat Livestock Development Board (GLDB) has been nominated as State Implementing Agency (SIA) for NPCBB (National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding), a 100% centrally sponsored scheme.

Under NPCBB, GLDB implements various activities related to breed improvement programme as per activity components of NPCBB. GLDB is established by Govt. of Gujarat on 12th April 2002 and registered under Charity Commissioner Act & Co-operative Society Act on 31-3-03.

The GLDB has been nominated as the S.I.A. for NPCBB – 100% C.S.S.


  • To increase coverage of breedable population under organized breeding programme through A.I./ NS
  • To arrange quality A.I. services at farmer's doorstep.
  • To enforce prescribed quality standards [CMU] for breeding bulls, Frozen semen production and lab. process.
  • Conservation and development of indigenous breeds.
    1. Cattle : Gir & Kankrej
    2. Buffalo : Surti, Mehsani, Jafrabadi & Banni.
  • Training to A.I. workers for quality A.I. services and professionals for production of semen straws.
